Services to Organisations

Does your organisation need volunteers?

If your organization needs volunteers and wishes to be included on our database and use our services, it needs to be registered with us. You can register your organization by completing a registration form available from the centre. We ask that you update your volunteer requirements regularly and let us know when jobs are filled.

All our services are free!

Services to Public, Voluntary and Community Organisations

  • volunteer-matching database
  • access to posting volunteering opportunities on the national volunteering website at www.do-it.org.uk
  • Harrow Volunteer Co-ordinators Forum
  • quarterly newsletter "Volunteering in Harrow"
  • library and publications on volunteering issues
  • advice and support on developing volunteer policies

Meeting your needs

All volunteers visiting us in the Centre are interviewed by the Co-ordinator who will be familiar with your volunteer needs as described on your registration form. We will make every effort to make the very best match we can with a suitable volunteer.

The more clearer information you can give us, the more likely we are to achieve a successful placement for you. We are now working in partnership with TimeBank, a Home Office initiative where volunteers can "bank their time" by calling a central number.

They are then referred to a local "time partner" of which VC Harrow is one. Most of these volunteers are only available evenings or weekends but are of high quality and have a good level of commitment.

To view the TimeBank site, visit www.timebank.org.uk.

Volunteers with Extra Support Needs

It is also helpful for us to know whether you are able to take volunteers with extra support needs.

  • are your premises accessible to disabled people ?
  • do you have someone solely responsible for inducting, training and supporting volunteers ?

The more information we have about your organization, the more likely we are to find you a successful volunteer placement.

What happens next ?

Once you are registered with us, we will upload your vacancies onto the National Database of Volunteering Opportunities operated by YouthNet at www.thesite.org/do-it. This will ensure that your volunteer vacancies are publicised nationwide. We will, of course, also promote your opportunities to volunteers visiting our office for interviews. We recruit between 30 - 50 volunteers each week.

Volunteer Co-ordinators Forum

The Harrow Volunteer Co-ordinators Forum is open to all volunteer-involving organizations that are registered with the Volunteer Centre Harrow.

If you are a Volunteer Co-ordinator/Organizer (or just happen to have managing volunteers tagged onto your job description), this is your chance to:

  • meet with other people working in Harrow facing similar challenges/issues
  • get up to date with latest volunteering developments
  • focus on specific volunteering issues through regular 'themed' Forums
  • find out more about our services and how to access them
